Description
This regular issue replaced the 15-cent Postal Administration Centennial Commemorative stamp. The gannet was chosen as an appropriate symbol for the 15-cent stamps used extensively for the prepayment of airmail postage. The bird is displayed against a night sky that includes Polaris or the North Star. On Bonaventure Island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence a bird sanctuary provides the summer home for the largest colony of gannets in existence. A gannet against a night sky.
