Description
Scene on the Mackenzie River, Northwest Territories. This airmail stamp is a composite, with one of the Mackenzie River shallow-draft stern-wheelers (actually the S.S. Distributor) somewhere along the river. In the left foreground the group of men carrying supplies to and from the landing stage has been adapted from a photograph showing similar activities at Aklavik, near the mouth of the river. Also in the foreground a twin-engined monoplane, equipped with floats, has been introduced to contrast the old and new methods of transporting mail along the Mackenzie River. This is one of Canada's northern gateways.
