Description

In recognition of the historical and cultural role played by dolls in our society, Canada Post Corporation is issuing a set of four commemorative stamps. This se tenant issue focusses on Native Dolls (1840-1916), Settlers' Dolls (1840-1900), and Commercial Dolls (1917-1936 and 1940-1960). All of the dolls depicted on the stamps are Canadian, and remind us about how we lived day-to-day in the past. The dolls are pictured in groups, positioned among other toys as they might be displayed in a child's room or on a toy store shelf. These stamps were created by Nita Wallace of Design Source, Toronto, using photographs by Micheal Kohn of dolls and toys. Other stamps by Design Source include the Baseball, Football, Engineering, and International Trade issues.
