Description
The 2nd in the series of Canadian Heritage Rivers stamps was issued on April 22, 1992, illustrating 5 of this country's famous waterways of industry and commerce. Similar to format used in 1991,, the stamps were issued in a Stamp Pack of 10. Canada is famous worldwide for its natural resource industries, fisheries, logging, agriculture, hydro-electric power, recreation and tourism.
Some 120 km in length, the Margaree River rises and flows swiftly through the scenic Cape Breton Highlands, meandering through meadows and wetlands before emptying into Northumberland Strait. It is world renowned for its Atlantic salmon, providing a sound economic base for both fishing and tourism, as well as nearby farming and forestry. In recognition of its representation of Nova Scotia's natural, cultural and recreational heritage, the Margaree was included in the Canadian Heritage Rivers System in August, 1991.
