Description
The Winter Olympics will take place at Lake Placid, New York, from 13 to 24 February 1980. Young Canadians who have endured long and painful years of training will compete with other elite athletes in their fields and will demonstrate their skills to a worldwide audience. Of course only a small portion of the competitors will win a medal. Yet even if an athlete is not a medalist, it is inspiring to see that person striving to attain his or her full potential. This spectacle will no doubt promote a higher level of fitness among Canadians. The stamp for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games at Lake Placid, N. Y. , was designed by Clermont Malenfant of Design G, Montreal. Using an action shot of a skier, by photographer Dinh Ngoc Mô, the design emphasizes the strenuous physical activity of Olympic winter sports.
