Description
For the first time in history, Canada has been chosen to be the proud host of the Olympic Winter Games. Almost 2,500 athletes from around the world will gather in Calgary and the nearby mountains to compete in internationally acclaimed facilities during the XV Winter Olympics. Curling is a demonstration sport at the 1988 Olympics. Competition for medals in this sport takes place at the Max Bell Arena. In this special artistic tribute, Canadian stamp designer Pierre-Yves Pelletier freezes the classic, graceful stance of a curler in motion, concentrating, positioning, and preparing to release his grip on the polished granite rock.
