Description

At one time or another, the forts of Canada have housed and defended Indians, settlers, missionaries, fur traders, policemen and soldiers. Each remaining fort is a monument to the forces which created and preserved Canada. Massive Fort Henry was only one of six forts planned to defend Kingston, site of a naval dockyard and the entrance to the Rideau Canal. The Forts across Canada stamps were designed by Rolf Harder of Montreal. Supporting the linework, which gives a wealth of interesting detail, the simple flat shapes of colour capture the atmosphere of each fort. The view on each stamp shows one of the dominant characteristics of each fort. Jean Morin of Montreal was responsible for the design and development of the stamp booklet format and cover.
