Description
Canada Post Corporation's 1989 Christmas stamps feature winter landscapes by four Canadian painters. The 76-cent international rate stamp features an oil-on-canvas from the Art Gallery of Hamilton's collection. "Ste. Agnès" (c. 1925-1930) by Albert H. Robinson was likely the result of a sketching trip he took with Group of Seven member A.Y. Jackson to the village of Sainte-Agnès near La Malbaie in Quebec. Again, this stamp will be available in convenient stamp packs containing five international rate stamps. Ottawa's David Nethercott and Viviane Warburton developed the design concepts for these four stamps showing Canadian winter landscapes. Through their use of decorative borders and a seasonal message, the stamps suggest the look of elegant Christmas cards. Nethercott and Warburton's past works for Canada Post Corporation include the typographical design for the Dogs of Canada stamps and the design of the Frances Ann Hopkins stamp. Both issues appeared in 1988.
