Description

Last year Canada hosted Les Floralies internationales de Montréal, a floral exhibition. The outdoor garden on Ile Notre-Dame is now a permanent botanical exhibition, which will be open from 23 June to 30 August 1981. The creation of this large floral park will enable thousands of people to come in contact every year with a beautiful display of trees, shrubs, and flowerings plants. The Floralies will provide an opportunity to see landscaped gardens from many different countries and a variety of Canadian landscapes, notably the northern tundra. The stamp design features the Montreal Rose, a flower specially bred for Les Floralies and the City of Montreal by le Rosiériste Jean Gaujard of Lyons, France. The stamp, based on a photograph by Roméo Meloche, was designed by Jean-Pierre Beaudin, Jean Morin, and Tom Yakobina, all of Montreal.
