Description
The International Red Cross Conference, the supreme governing body of the organization, meets approximately every 4 years. In July 1952, the Conference met for the 1st time in Canada in Toronto, Ontario. The last Conference held in the Western hemisphere met in Washington in 1912. To commemorate the Canadian meeting a two-colour stamp was issued on July 26, 1952. The design depicts the Red Cross symbol superimposed on the disc of the sun, whose rays spread out over the earth below.
