Description
For the first time in history, Canada has been chosen to be the proud host of the Olympic Winter Games. Almost 2,500 athletes from around the world will gather in Calgary and the nearby mountains to compete in internationally acclaimed facilities during the XV Winter Olympics. Winter Olympic figure skating competitions were held for the first time at the 1924 Olympics in Chamonix, France. Competition in 1988 takes place at the Olympic Saddledome and other Calgary arenas. In this beautiful tribute to Olympic ice skaters, Canadian stamp designer Pierre-Yves Pelletier portrays the flawless poise of a competitor as she performs her routine with grace and finesse.
